From Organic Farming to Annam Milk

I am Sethupathy Ramakrishnan, Founder & CEO of Annam Farms. My journey began with a passion for organic and natural farming, inspired by the teachings and principles of G. Nammalvar. Long before Annam Milk was established, I was actively involved in practicing organic farming and learning how food can be produced in harmony with nature.

My belief was simple: healthy soil produces healthy crops, healthy animals, and ultimately healthy families.

With this philosophy, I started developing an integrated farm, where different farming activities support one another naturally. Crops, trees, livestock, and natural resources work together as a sustainable ecosystem rather than as separate businesses. Over time, our farm began producing organic vegetables, fruits, fodder, and milk through natural farming practices.

Later, while pursuing my IT career in Chennai, I faced the same challenge that many urban families face — finding food that I could trust for my own family.

Like many households, I initially purchased milk from a local milk vendor. One day, I witnessed a dairy farmer administering injections to a cow to increase milk production. Concerned about the welfare of the animal and the quality of the milk reaching consumers, I began discussing dairy practices with experienced veterinarians and natural farming experts from my hometown.

Seeking a better alternative, I changed my milk supplier. However, during visits to another dairy, I observed cattle being fed with food waste collected from restaurants. Once again, I was left with serious concerns about the quality of food entering the dairy supply chain.

These experiences became a turning point.

I realized that if I was struggling to find trustworthy milk for my own family, thousands of other families in Chennai were likely facing the same challenge.

Instead of continuing the search for a reliable source, I decided to bring milk directly from our own integrated farm for my household consumption.

Soon, neighbours, friends, and relatives began requesting the same milk. They appreciated knowing exactly where it came from, how the cows were cared for, and how the farm operated. What started as a small effort to serve a few families gradually grew into Annam Milk.

As customer trust grew, many families also began asking for the vegetables and fruits grown on our farm. Since organic farming had always been at the heart of our journey, it was a natural step to start supplying organic vegetables and fruits alongside our milk.

Today, Annam Farms is more than a dairy business. It is an integrated farming initiative that connects urban families directly with ethically produced food from trusted farms. Through partnerships with like-minded farmers, we continue to expand access to natural, wholesome food while staying true to the principles that inspired us from the beginning.
